A HANDFUL OF SAND
THE NEW SINGLE
Release 29.09.2023
Produced at Palma Music Studios
Barren sand hills, earthy desert colors, a mystical figure in the distance. A soldier? A ghost? A mirage? That's what A HANDFUL OF SAND sounds like. With their new single, St. Gallen's Gion Stump & The Lighthouse Project once again show how well they master the skillful play of familiar intimacy and opulent bombast. What starts as a narrative song with sophisticated, oriental synthesizer sounds, increases in the further course to a mantra-like musical intensification. Without any breather, the band adds an additional element again and again in the haunting final section - from polyphonic choirs to oppressive basses to thundering brass fanfares and guitar thunderstorms.
A HANDFUL OF SAND marks the beginning of a series of singles created in 2023 at Palma Music Studios in Spain. The song was again produced in collaboration with Dave Hofmann (Leech, Egopusher), Marc Carolan (Muse, The Cure, Snow Parrol) and Heini Weder. The atmospheric artwork for A HANDFUL OF SAND was created by the artist Mauvaise Gwen from Nantes (FR).
